Two overlapping phone screens showing the Visible app, including a Stability Score of 4 and a sleep rating prompt, set against a dark blue background with a subtle clock graphic.

A low-energy summary of what's new:

  • The Morning Stability score is being renamed the Stability score. This small change is part of a bigger effort to recognise that members’ days start at different times.
  • We’re updating how you get your Stability score. Visible Band 2.0 members will be able to get their score without taking a morning measurement.
  • Your band collects the data while you sleep. Wear it overnight, rate your sleep when you wake up, and your Stability score will be ready.
  • It’s rolling out in stages. The beta version is available to most Visible Band 2.0 members. If overnight mode appears in your Early access hub, you can opt in today.
  • The morning measurement is still available. Visible Band 2.0 members can keep using it if they prefer, and it will remain the way Verity Sense and free app members get their Stability score.

A new way to get your Stability score

Over the coming months, Visible Band 2.0 members will be able to get their Stability score from data collected while they sleep, instead of taking a morning measurement.

How it works

  1. Wear your Visible Band 2.0 to bed – Visible collects your heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) data overnight, ignoring periods when you're awake or moving.
  2. When you wake up, rate your sleep with one click.
  3. Your Stability score is ready.

Your evening symptoms and crash reports will continue to feed into your score, just as they do today.

A small change to the name

We’re also renaming the Morning Stability score to the Stability score. You’ll start to see this change in the app and Help Center soon. This small change is part of a broader effort to recognise that members’ days start at different times.

A simpler way to get your score

The Morning Stability score was designed to help you understand how your body is doing as the day begins. It’s one of the most valued parts of Visible, but we know taking the one-minute measurement isn't always easy.

When you're living with complex chronic illness, taking a measurement in the same position every morning can be hard. Members have told us that getting a score shouldn’t mean reaching for your phone the moment you wake up, or losing a day’s data because you needed to get up before you could complete the measurement.

As Harry, co-founder of Visible, says:

“No one should spend more time thinking about their illness than they need to. The best health tool is one that gives you what you need, then gets out of the way.”

A more consistent reading

The new overnight measurement uses data collected across several hours of sleep, rather than a single one-minute measurement in the morning. Because your body is usually in a more settled position while you sleep, it can capture more consistent data across a longer period and build a more reliable baseline over time.

We know disrupted sleep is common when you’re living with complex chronic illness. The score uses average readings taken overnight and excludes periods when you’re awake or moving, so waking during the night won’t stop you from getting a score.

You may notice that your overnight HRV readings look different from your morning HRV. That's normal. We take this into account when comparing your readings to your recent baseline, so your score stays meaningful even though the HRV numbers look different.

What this means for you

The new Stability score is coming to every Visible Band 2.0 member. We’re rolling it out in stages before making it part of the regular app experience later this summer.

If you see Stability (overnight mode) in your Early access hub

You can opt in today by going to Profile > Early access hub. Most members with Visible Band 2.0 are in this group. If you joined Visible in the last couple of months, you may not see it just yet. You’ll get access later this year as we continue the rollout.

If you’re testing sleep tracking

You’ll be able to use sleep tracking and overnight mode side by side soon. We’re updating the app so the two features work together, with the update expected in mid-July. We’ll let you know when it’s ready.

If you use a Polar Verity Sense or the free app

The classic morning measurement remains the way to get your Stability score. You need Visible Band 2.0 to record overnight heart rate data.

If you’d rather not wear your band to bed

You’ll have the option to opt out and continue with your morning check-ins.

Built with members

From the first small group of testers in January to the thousands of you on the beta today, this feature has been shaped by your feedback.

Here's some of what members told us:

“I love the convenience of not having to sit around and, bar only 1 out of heaps, it feels more accurate than the minute check in.”
"Today you said 2. I was feeling great and said it didn't agree with how I felt. But now 6 hours later, I am feeling that you were absolutely on target with the 2."

Your feedback also showed us where we needed to improve. In earlier versions, some members did not receive a score every morning. We investigated why, made changes, and the overnight measurement is now as reliable as the morning measurement.

What’s next

This is the first in a series of improvements we have planned for the Stability score and wider pacing system. We’ve heard that you want a score that takes account of more factors, like the previous day’s exertion and your monthly check-in. We’re working on this and excited to share more updates with you over the coming months.

Onwards!
