Introducing: the new Monthly Check-in

The Monthly Check-in has been redesigned to give you a clearer picture of how you’re doing over time.

We’ve updated it to help you track different aspects of your health separately, see how things change over time, and complete your check-in with less effort.

Here’s what’s changing and why.

A more complete picture of your health

Until now, the Monthly Check-in has used FUNCAP-27, a questionnaire developed for people with ME/CFS. It gave you one overall score for your functional capacity.

We’re now moving to PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System), a set of clinically validated measures designed to work across different health conditions, including Long Covid, ME/CFS, POTS, fibromyalgia and EDS.

The new check-in will look at the following areas of your health:

  • Fatigue
  • Thinking
  • Movement
  • Social roles
  • Symptom delay (optional)
  • Pain interference (optional)

PROMIS doesn’t cover post-exertional malaise (PEM), so we’ve added Symptom delay questions to track how much activity you can manage before symptoms worsen the next day.

The result is a Monthly Check-in designed for people living with a wider range of health conditions, with a clearer view of how different aspects of your health change over time.

Less time answering questions, more insight

The new Monthly Check-in covers more areas of your health, but has fewer questions overall, with simpler answer options.

This means you can build a more detailed picture of your health without spending as much time and energy completing the questionnaire.

Making changes easier to see

Changes in your health aren’t always easy to notice, especially when they happen gradually.

One of the benefits of PROMIS is its sensitivity to change. It’s designed to pick up even relatively small shifts in your health over time. When we evaluated PROMIS with Visible members, it detected meaningful changes over 12 weeks.

We’re making those changes easier to see in the app, too. After each check-in, you’ll get a summary comparing your answers with your previous check-in. You’ll be able to see how each area of your health has changed over time.

Perhaps your fatigue has eased since you adjusted your pacing, or social activities have felt harder during a difficult month. Whether things are improving, staying steady or becoming more difficult, you’ll have a clearer picture of how you’re doing.

Easier to share with your clinician

It can be difficult to communicate the full impact of a complex chronic illness during a medical appointment.

PROMIS is widely used by healthcare professionals across different medical specialties. Because many clinicians are already familiar with these measures, your answers can provide a useful starting point for conversations about how your health is changing and what that means for your care.

Supporting our longer-term mission

We don’t want cost to be a barrier to accessing Visible. Our long-term goal is to make Visible available through healthcare systems and insurance providers, so more people can access the support they need.

To make this possible, we need strong clinical evidence showing how Visible benefits the people who use it. PROMIS helps us build that evidence using established, clinically validated measures that are widely recognised in healthcare and research.

What about FUNCAP-27?

If you’ve been using FUNCAP-27, you can continue using it alongside the new Monthly Check-in. This might be helpful if you want to keep following your existing trends, or if you’ve already been sharing your FUNCAP-27 with your clinician. All your previous results will remain available too.

To find it, go to Profile → Monthly Check-in, then select Functional Capacity under Other questionnaires.

Available now

The new Monthly Check-in is rolling out from today and will become available to members over the next few days. Make sure you have the latest version of the Visible app to access it.

As always, we’d love to hear what you think. Your feedback helped shape this update, and it will continue to guide what we do next.

Onwards!
